About Me

I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker and a Certified Hypnotherapist specializing in treatment of anxiety, sleep issues, stress, relocation adjustment and relationship issues. I  maintain a private practice office in Anchorage, Alaska, and serve residents anywhere  in Alaska via Tele-Health. (HIPPA compliant video conferencing)

In addition to being a seasoned therapist, with over twenty eight years experience, I  am an interactive, solution-focused therapist. My therapeutic approach is to provide support and practical feedback to help you effectively address personal life challenges. I integrate complementary methodologies and techniques to offer a highly personalized approach tailored to each client. With compassion and understanding, I work with each individual to help you build on your strengths and attain the personal growth you are committed to.

I have an MSW from UNC Chapel Hill NC (1988) and practiced in NC until 2007 when I moved to Alaska for an 18 month contract at what was then, Fort Richardson. (Now, JBER)  If you’ve been in Alaska long, you know lots of people who came, like me, for a short contract and fell in love with Alaska and decided to stay.

I raised two children, attended college and graduate school as a single, working parent. If you are feeling overwhelmed or stressed out………I have SO been there and can help you learn to cope in a healthy way.  If you are struggling to adjust to being in a new place, far from family and friends, and certainly not an easy road trip away, I hear you and can help.  If you love the views in Alaska and yearn to get out and “breath the fresh air and exercise” but don’t know where to even start, I will show you. Having trouble sleeping in the summer in “The land of the Midnight Sun”? Struggling to get up in the endless dark of Winter or feeling S.A.D. because of the long dark days? That is normal and I can guide you to feeling like your self again.  As someone who has had life long migraines, and has developed arthritis and has two artificial hips, I have personal and professional experience dealing with the challenges of living with chronic pain and it’s, sometimes, debilitating impact on that healthy life we all long for.  I've worked in hospitals, and medical clinics and know the specialized stress of being a caregiver to others.  Together, we can make a plan to enable  you to take care of you while you care for others.

When my clients come in feeling like the weight of their world is on their shoulders and  they can’t see their way to happiness,  I strive to help them clear out the clutter of their mind and to look at things in a new way. When they say, “I hadn’t thought of that”, or “ I never looked at it that way”, I know they are on their way to feeling HOPEFUL. When a couple comes in, angry and sad, but smiling and hugging each other when they leave, excited that their relationship CAN be great, and that they CAN resolve their conflicts-I am thrilled for their success.  Clients who struggle to enjoy life because they are TIRED or who have no energy because they haven’t been able to sleep, spring into the joys of the Alaskan life once they start getting a good night’s sleep. Watching and guiding clients to achieve THEIR goals brings me happiness.

As a therapist, I guide you in achieving what you want out of life. I am supportive and optimistic and directive when needed. I find that clients don’t want to “just talk” but want direction  and solutions, and I strive to provide that.  I sometimes call myself a “Bibliotherapsit” as I know the perfect book to support you in your process.  In the twenty eight years I have been practicing I have specialized in treating; anxiety, stress, relationships, and relocation adjustment.  I have a special interest in and experience working with LGBTQ folks as they “come out” and with parents trying to be supportive of their LGBTQ children, as well as the special needs of Health Care Providers and Military Families.
